New Shades in the Living Room!

I just finished installing 4 new shades in my living room. They are replacing drapes that I was really tired of looking at! I think I like them okay (I'd have to sit and look at them until I did like them otherwise, right Mom?), what do you think?

Motorcycle Season is just around the corner!

Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are here and it will be riding weather soon (I actually saw a few out riding today) so I thought I'd share this sign that I saw in North Carolina. More states should put these up, don't you think?

Blue Sky!

Wow, It's been a few weeks since I've posted. My trip to Florida was a huge success! I came home to a sunny and warm (55 degree) day. I tried to bottle up enough Florida warmth to start Spring but I guess I only could carry enough for a few days. The weather turned cold again and we were hit with another foot of snow over the weekend. The sun is out today and the forecast is for rain and in the 50s by the end of the week, so maybe Spring is really on it's way!

Rumbling in Florida

I believe I have invented a new word this morning. Rumbling. What does it mean, you ask? Well, Trudy and Ernie came by yesterday with this beautiful 1929 Model A. Joanne and I went for a ride in the rumble seat. Resa's dictionary definition: rumbling (verb); riding in a rumble seat. How's that? Oh, and the weather update: It's warm but overcast here today and sunshine predicted for the rest of the week!

Ready for Bike Week!

Hi all. I made it here safely, the trip down was uneventful (always a good thing). It's sunny and 75 here today, the truck and trailer are washed (thanks Dad!) and the bike is unloaded. I spent the morning giving Mom's computer a once over and it is good to go again, although the dial-up speed is about enough to make me give up my Internet addiction (sigh). No pictures for today's blog, they take too long to upload! Bye for today :-)

Rake the Roof

Well, it's a sunny day here in Central, NY, and a balmy 24 degrees! Here are a few photos I took this morning. This one shows the front of my house, I wanted you to see where I raked the roof. It is a simple thing to do to prevent the ice from building up in the valleys and "raising the roof", yikes!

A Dog's Story

Kobe loves the snow. Here he is standing in the path between our house and Winston's. Lou, the neighbor, snowblows a path so the two dogs can play.

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!

This is the view from my garage door towards the road when I arrived home from Cornell at 2pm today. Cornell officially closed today at 12:30pm, this is only the second time in the 22 years I have worked there! Yes, that is my garbage can, the snow is almost to the top of it now and the garbage is still there.












This is a picture showing the snow on my back deck! Yikes. The snow is very heavy too, tomorrow I will attempt to rake some of it off my roof and take more pics...













I snapped this photo as I was leaving Cornell at 1:30 today. It's beginning to look a lot like winter, wouldn't you say?

Happy Valentine's Day! Most folks in the area are getting a snow day. Here is my first picture this morning. It looks like about 7-8 inches fell overnight. It's not doing much right now but Chris, the weatherman, tells me to expect heavy snow today between 9am-3pm...

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for all of Central New York from today at 3pmuntil tomorrow at 7pm. We are in the area on the weather map that is expected to receive 18-24" of snow! I will report back this evening with an update (and photo if available).

SNOW WILL MOVE INTO THE MONTROSE...ELMIRA...AND HORNELL AREAS AROUND 3 PM...BINGHAMTON...ITHACA AND PENN YAN BY 5 PM...AND ONEONTA AND SYRACUSE BY 7 PM. Update at 8:49pm, it started snowing lightly about 7:30pm, it's starting to come down heavier now. Latest forecast is for 7-10 inches overnight and then another 12-16 inches tomorrow during the day. I'll post pictures in the morning.

The Countdown begins!

I am officially starting my countdown today, 10 days until I head for the warm south! It looks like we are going to get another shot of winter here in Central New York. I bet all of you down south wish you were here. Happy Monday.

Miscellaneous Monday

Several topics made me stop and think yesterday.
The first: Gas Prices
I was driving past the gas station where the price of gas is $2.43 and I was listening to the radio. The guy reports that the average price of gas last week in the US was $2.14. Wow! If that is the average, then some are paying more (New Yorkers) and some are paying less (Where?). I think I want to move to where they are paying less than the average!

Second: Barbaro
He fought a couragous battle, I had hoped to go visit him on his retirement farm.

Third: Autism
Rosie and The View team did an hour long show on Autism. The show was very inspirational. 1 of 166 kids today are diagnosed with some level of Autism. Check out Rosie's or The View's website for more details.

Fourth: Monday Night Television
Prison Break, 24, and CSI:Miami. My 3 favorite shows all on the same night. I am exhausted by bedtime (which is why this is being posted Tuesday morning). Although I can't complain about my Monday night dreams:-)

Fifth (but definitely not last in ranking): Ellen
Ellen provides the laughs that Americans need everyday. I watched her Birthday show that I had on my DVR and what can I say? She is truly a blessing to today's television viewers!

Oh, and one question: How do the dead bugs get into the enclosed light fixture?

Good Day to make Chili

It's a cold, cold, winter day here, a good day to cook a pot of chili! My friend Sue makes probably the best chili in the world. My friend Amy wishes she could make it. As for me, I do my best to create something edible. The nice part about my recipe is I can make it as spicy as I want because it is for me! I love the smell most of all, it makes the house feel warm and cozy. Happy Saturday!

I just snapped this photo out the back door of my house. Does it look like it is January 13th in Upstate NY? I think it looks more like October or April, don't you? There is a chance things might look a bit different tomorrow and if so, I'll post a new picture. Happy Saturday everyone!

Global Warming, El Niño, or this?

I spent an hour or so this morning researching El Niño, I found this link to have the best information: El Niño. The scientists seem to understand it and are able to explain it quite well. It makes me feel better to know that the strange weather isn't due to global warming... but maybe the cartoon above is true? I'll let all of my baby-boomer friends be the judges :-)

Sunrise - January 4, 2007

The old tale says "Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning", correct? Well, here is a picture of yesterday morning's sky and the day was sunny and warm (in the 50s)! Not bad for January in Central New York!!!! I'm not sure what all of the strange weather patterns across the country mean, but I know one thing for sure, there is no reason to fret about, because we have absolutely NO CONTROL over it. The old saying "Accept the things you can not change" comes to mind. I will enjoy the pleasant days though. I just wish the roads were a bit cleaner so I could ride my motorcycle :-(
