To chase or not to chase...

Police chases, do you think they should be outlawed? I do. The first chase I remember vividly occurred when I was a teenager. A trooper chased a car through my home town (population 500). I remember hearing the sirens and seeing the two cars fly by my street. Very soon after, the trooper car sirens ended and the fire siren rang. It turns out the young man being chased lost control and wrapped his car around a telephone pole on the outskirts of town, he died instantly. I'll never forget both how scared I was and how relieved I was that no innocent bystanders were injured or killed in the "chase". I don't remember what he was being chased for, but probably speeding. Clearly not worth dying over!

Early this week in nearby small town, a young trooper driving a marked police car (a Chevy Tahoe) decided to chase after a young man on a Japanese motorcycle. The road is hilly, windy, and alot of fun to ride on a motorcycle. As the trooper approached the village's 30MPH speed zone (at approx 100MPH) he lost control, hit a tree, and died instantly. Was this speeding motorcycle worth dying over? Realistically, the trooper never had a chance of catching the motorcycle, whose speed and handling allowed its rider to easily out maneuver the tahoe. Area residents are outraged and seem to think the young man on the motercycle should be guilty of murder. I believe that he's guilty of speeding and evading police, but he's not guilty of manslaughter. The trooper made a really poor judgement call and thankfully didn't hurt anyone else when he crashed. The outcome of this chase could have been MUCH worse. High speed chases should be against the law. Cops should use the technology available today to help each other apprehend the law breakers, they should not use their vehicles as bullets.

Happy Birthday Bill

"Today is believed to be the birthdate of English poet and dramatist William Shakespeare." I saw this little blurb on one of the many web sites I peruse each morning and I tried to remember the last time I read anything by Bill (to be honest, I can't remember). I can think of a couple of famous plays that I have seen and of course I can come up with a few famous quotes but that's about it. Sorry Bill, I'll try to add a few of your treasures to my "must read" list. While I was trying to rack my brain for Bill wisdom, I found this site: Shakespeare's Quotes. How many of the quotes do you remember?

Spring Cleaning

It's a cold rainy day here in upstate New York. There isn't much else to do but some spring house cleaning (not my favorite past time).

The motto for the day: " The sooner I begin, the sooner I'll finish".

Oh, one more thing. I snapped this photo last night, the critters don't always like to cooperate but I thought this was pretty good. Sparky and Kobe say hi to everyone out there in cyberspace!

Spring Fever - repost!

Spring is really here! I found myself out on a golf course last night. Snoopy should have come along to find the balls (which by the way didn't remember how to fly straight and long). My game wasn't sharp but it was nice to be outside and absorb some of the sunshine! League begins Monday night in Cortland.

The best part about spring is I can ride my bike again. I've been riding to work everyday this week. It's a bit brisk in the morning but very enjoyable on the ride home! Woohoo, Spring has really sprung!

Finally feeling human again!

This picture depicts how I've felt for almost 2 weeks. Finally, this morning I woke up feeling much better. My chest is still congested but my cough is mostly gone and I can sleep again, much to my dog's content as he has been annoyed with me for keeping him awake at night. I wanted to post a picture showing that I was feeling better so I "googled" for a "feeling healthy" image. Here is what came up... isn't it cute?

I'm pretty sure there is a secret in this picture somewhere. Perhaps they are just passing along the word that Resa is finally feeling better, woohoo!

Spring Fever!

This picture depicts how I've felt for the past 4 days. I've had some sort of a spring cold or flu, I'm not sure what to call it (definitely not my idea of the kind of Spring Fever I was hoping for). To make things worse, the weather has been sunny and in the 60's for the past two days and while I could have been out riding I was snuggling (and sneezing and coughing) on the couch with my critters. The critters have been happy to keep me company and I do believe that I am now on the road to recovery!

Kodak Birdcam: The falcons are back!

It's definitely Spring and the Peregrine falcons are back in the Rochester, NY Kodak building's nest. The Kodak birdcam is live now and I caught this picture over the weekend during the changing of the guard. 6 eggs this year, last year there were 5. Way to go Mariah!

New York Hack

I found this blog and thought I'd share it. It's written by a lady cab driver in New York City. I'm not sure how many lady cab drivers exist in NYC but the number has to be low. The blog is a pretty good read.

April Showers...

You know the saying? "April Showers bring May Flowers"... well today was certainly an April Showery kind of day. Gray clouds covered the sky and it finally downpoured mid-morning. I would usually complain such weather but these days the April showers wash the road so I can ride my motorcycle on a nice clean surface. I have finally found a reason to look forward to the April showers (woohoo!). Happy April!
